From LA to SF in less than an hour. From NY to Shanghai in less than a few hours. They put you in a tube & shoot you across a another tube (this ones bigger), really fast. It’s not a car, train, plane, or boat.
I’ve been fanboying about this ever since Elon Musk released documents and designs for what it might look like. The Hyperloop is a high-speed transportation system built with a low-pressure tube, topping out at speeds upwards of 800mph.
Here’s an intro video. Straight from the Hyperloop factory:
Prototyping started out in UCLA. And in 2016 there’s going to be a real-life sized model for testing.
If you think this is just for show, Hyperloop Technologies has taken on investment from SherpaVentures. VC’s aren’t known for betting on the long game. This is something that’s coming up. The Hyperloop is going to be an accessible mode of transportation soon. My estimates have Hyperloop available to at least one American city before the end of 2018.
I’m building in a cushion for testing/safety. I don’t think the build takes longer than a year in this situation. Hyperloop’s structure is much different than our labor and material heavy bridges and roadways.
